Google is making us REtarded.
I do agree that "What Taylor did for the work of the hand is what Google is doing for the work of the mind" because of the quickness it has added to our lifestyles. Taylor looked for ways to speed up the way humans operated they're daily lifestyles, while Google has offered instant answers for whatever questions someone can think of. Google has even become a verb, for instance someone will tell you to just "Google it" whenever there is an answer that you don't know. People can look up anything they wish and copy anything also from any site Google can produce. Copying whole essays and using Google during class has become more popular. They no longer have to think for themselves because it has become a means of convenience to just type in whatever you please. I wouldn't say we are becoming stupid, because after all these people still have to think of the questions to ask. I do say people have become lazy though because they do not venture into books or think up their own answers to these questions that they have. Google has branched itself into every aspect of people's lives now with tshirts, homepages for internet users, and of course the famous Google site. Seriously the guy that created this probably wipes his booty with 100 dollar bills. Insanity, I tell ya.. Haha sorryy for the mental image. Anywayss, oh yeah I forgot, you can text Google too if you didn't already know that. Yes, its made an impact on our cellular devices as well, my friend. 46645 or GOOGL is the number to text for like.. Business addresses and such. All in favor of who use it.. Ha, guilty. It has replaced paper research and made instant gratification that much more accessible, and the resulting product is none other than future generations of laziness and ignorance. Sad, sad day..

Its nice to read a funny blog. Some people write like they are employed by Philsophy Now magazine. I see where you are coming from. However, I wrote my blog on the fact that i think it is making us more stupid. Your insight is cool, though. I agree that Google has made us lazy for sure. People hardly turn to books for research anymore, as they get on the internet to look stuff up. Printed dictionaries and encyclopedias have, in my opinion, been beaten by electronic databases. It is weird that we grew up using a printed dictionary to look up vocabulary words in school, or definitions in general, and in our short lives the internet has taken over like the DVD player took over the VHS player. It really is sad to see this change happening in our society. Like you said, "the resulting product is none other than future generations of laziness and ignorance. Sad, sad day.." well said. Any plug you need, Google will fill. As you mentioned, you can have a Google homepage, and you can even text Google for simple information. If it is already affecting us, imagine what our kids will be like...scary stuff.
ReplyDeleteHeather girl!!
ReplyDeleteWell…I enjoyed reading your blog, even if our ideas contrasted a bit. I do agree with you that Google has become a more convenient way of finding out information. And I do agree that it is much easier than paper research. But all I am saying is that this “cyber research” per say, is not very high on the list of credibility. I mean, who actually provides Google with its information? I mean it just doesn’t make sense that we provide Google with all this trust when in reality it may not all be true.
Anyways, with that thought I do on the other hand agree with you that it is much much easier to get access to information with these data bases. It cuts research time in half, and yes this is a good thing. All I am saying is that we have to take the risk in believing that it is factual and true information.
Anywhoooo, I really liked your blog Detective Malone!
welll hello there stuart =) haha. Very insightful blob. I completely agree with the point you are bringing across. It is not that people are necessarily stupid, it is the fact that they are lazy bums not wanting to motivate their knowledge whatsoever. People are so prone into just lacking in work ethic, that they rely on the internet to save their day. It is pathetic but, in reality, the majority of people do it. I am even guilty of this =( If people just opened up a book and studied that way they would be increasing his or her knowledge and expanding their brain in the correct manner!
